Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 25, 2026
This policy explains what data GameKyn ("we", "us", "the site") collects when you visit gamekyn.com, why we collect it, who it's shared with, and what rights you have over it.
We've written it in plain language rather than legalese. Where a legal term matters, we explain it.
1. Who we are
GameKyn is an independent gaming publication operated by Mike. For any privacy question, correction, or data request, contact us at privacy@gamekyn.com.
For the purposes of the EU/UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), GameKyn is the data controller for personal data processed through this website.
2. What we collect
2.1 Information you give us directly
If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you choose to write. We use it only to respond to you, and we don't add it to any mailing list without your explicit consent.
2.2 Information collected automatically
Like nearly every website, our hosting provider and analytics tools automatically record certain technical information when you visit:
- IP address (typically truncated or anonymized before storage)
- Browser type and version, operating system, and device type
- Pages visited, time spent, and the page that referred you here
- Approximate geographic location, derived from IP at country or city level
- Date and time of your visit
This data is used in aggregate to understand which articles are useful and whether the site is working correctly. We do not attempt to identify individual visitors from it.
2.3 What we never collect
We do not collect payment information — no transactions take place on this site. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13 (or under 16 in the EEA/UK). We do not sell personal information to anyone, in any jurisdiction, under any definition of "sell."
3. Cookies and similar technologies
Cookies are small text files stored by your browser. We use a limited number of them:
| Type | Purpose | Consent required? |
|---|---|---|
| Strictly necessary | Core site function, security, remembering your cookie preferences | No |
| Analytics | Aggregate traffic measurement (which pages are read, how visitors arrive) | Yes — EEA/UK visitors |
| Affiliate tracking | Set by partner networks to attribute a purchase to a referral from this site | Yes — EEA/UK visitors |
If you are visiting from the EEA or UK, non-essential cookies are only set after you consent. You can withdraw consent at any time by clearing cookies for this domain or through your browser settings.
You can also block cookies entirely in your browser. The site is static HTML and CSS, so it will continue to work normally with all cookies disabled.
4. Analytics
We use a web analytics service to understand aggregate traffic patterns. Where the provider offers it, we enable IP anonymization and disable advertising features and cross-site data sharing.
Analytics data tells us things like "this article was read 4,000 times and most readers left at the third heading." It does not tell us who you are.
You can opt out of analytics tracking at browser level using any standard tracking-prevention setting or extension, and we honour those signals where technically possible.
5. Affiliate links
GameKyn contains affiliate links. When you click one, the partner network may set a cookie or use a similar identifier to record that you arrived from this site, so that a commission can be attributed if you subsequently make a purchase.
Important points:
- We never receive your name, address, payment details, or order contents.
- We typically receive only aggregate reporting — for example, a number of clicks and a number of conversions.
- Once you click through to a partner site, that site's own privacy policy governs your data, not ours.
- Using an affiliate link never costs you more than going direct.
Full details of how affiliate links are used editorially are on our Affiliate Disclosure page.
6. Third parties and embedded content
Images on this site are served from a third-party image host. When your browser loads them, that host receives your IP address and browser information as part of the ordinary technical process of delivering a file. This is standard for any site loading external resources.
Articles may link to external websites. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of any site we link to. We'd encourage you to read their policies.
7. Legal basis for processing (GDPR)
If you are in the EEA or UK, we rely on the following legal bases:
- Legitimate interests — for essential site security, fraud prevention, and basic aggregate traffic measurement, balanced against your rights and freedoms.
- Consent — for analytics and affiliate cookies. You may withdraw this at any time.
- Legal obligation — where we are required to retain or disclose information by law.
8. Your rights under GDPR (EEA/UK visitors)
You have the right to:
- Access — request a copy of any personal data we hold about you.
- Rectification — have inaccurate data corrected.
- Erasure — request deletion of your data ("right to be forgotten").
- Restriction — ask us to limit how we process your data.
- Portability — receive your data in a machine-readable format.
- Object — object to processing based on legitimate interests.
- Withdraw consent — at any time, without affecting processing already carried out.
- Complain — lodge a complaint with your national data protection authority.
To exercise any of these, email privacy@gamekyn.com. We'll respond within 30 days. There is no charge for a reasonable request.
9. Your rights under CCPA/CPRA (California residents)
If you are a California resident, you have the right to:
- Know what categories of personal information we collect and the purposes for which it is used.
- Request deletion of personal information we have collected about you.
- Correct inaccurate personal information.
- Opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information.
- Not be discriminated against for exercising any of these rights.
We do not sell personal information as that term is defined under the CCPA/CPRA, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising.
To make a request, email privacy@gamekyn.com with "California Privacy Request" in the subject line. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request.
10. Data retention
Analytics data is retained in aggregate form for no longer than 26 months. Email correspondence is retained only as long as needed to handle your enquiry and any reasonable follow-up. Server logs are retained for a short period for security and diagnostic purposes.
11. International transfers
Our hosting and analytics providers may process data on servers located outside your country, including in the United States. Where data is transferred out of the EEA or UK, we rely on the transfer mechanisms our providers have in place, such as Standard Contractual Clauses or an applicable adequacy decision.
12. Security
This site is served over HTTPS. Because GameKyn is a static site that does not host user accounts, does not process payments, and does not maintain a user database, the amount of personal data at risk is minimal by design.
No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
13. Children's privacy
This site is not directed at children under 13 (or under 16 in the EEA/UK), and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it promptly.
14. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy to reflect changes in our practices or the law. The "last updated" date at the top will always show the current version. Material changes will be flagged prominently on the site.
